For these EFL Cup semi-finals, a London derby is in the spotlight, as Chelsea faces Tottenham Hotspur for this first act played at Stamford Bridge. For these semi-finals, a first leg and a second leg will be played to reach the final. Knowing the rivalry between the two clubs on the field and in the stands, both teams will be keen to do well without forgetting that this is played over two games. For this match Chelsea will be able to count on Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner but will have to do without Edouard Mendy and Thiago Silva, N’Golo Kante being absent due to Covid-19.

One-sided first half for Chelsea

Chelsea dominated this first half very clearly, first of all with Kai Havertz’s quick opening in the 5th minute. Chelsea doubled the lead with an own goal from Ben Davies in the 34th minute. A first half where Chelsea were on top both technically and tactically. Chelsea’s game was very well orchestrated and they took advantage of their opponent’s weaknesses.

A Chelsea without pressure in the second half

In the second half Tottenham had a small period of improvement, but it was still too little when compared to Chelsea’s superiority, especially in terms of commitment. Chelsea were quieter in the second half, but still managed to be dangerous without scoring and without really being in danger either. A first act won by Thomas Tuchel’s team at home, the return match will take place next Wednesday at Tottenham Stadium. Chelsea will be able to approach this match with more tranquility but they will still have to be vigilant and be prepared for a reaction and a totally different but it’s reasonable to say that Chelsea has one foot in the final.
