Tennis/Australian Open – Barty makes it to the finals on home soil

Ashleigh Barty didn’t hang around on the courts on Thursday. In just over an hour, she defeated Madison Keys 6-1, 6-3. She is now in the final of the first major of the season, at home in Australia.

Impressive. The Australian’s performance is incredible. Three first rounds losing only eight games, a one-sided quarter-final, and then this semi-final without any real confrontation, the course is close to perfection both in terms of results and play.

The world number one will face either D. Collins or I. Swiatek in the final. But it’s hard to see which of these two players could upset Barty in the final as the Australian’s level is so high. Especially as the Australian will be able to benefit from a fresh condition, with less than seven hours on court. A clear advantage when you know the difficult conditions that the players face on the court.

A final at home

By reaching the final of the 2022 Australian Open, Ashleigh Barty is the first Australian player to reach the final of the Australian Open in 42 years. The last to reach the final was Wendy Turnbull in 1980.

As a result, she will be playing in the final in front of a dedicated crowd, who dream of seeing her win in Melbourne.

At 25, Ashleigh Barty will be looking for her third Grand Slam title, following the 2019 French Open and Wimbledon 2021.
