Alpine Skiing/Parallel Slalom – Paula Moltzan, a good surprise

The performance to be noted during this parallel slalom is the one of Paula Moltzan. The 26-year-old American took the 4th place in the parallel slalom of the world championships. A nice performance: she stayed on a 9th place obtained this year in the slalom event.

The world title for Marta Bassino is logical in view of her domination in the giant event. But maybe the one we were not expecting is the American Paula Moltzan. The Minneapolis native took the 4th place, one step away from a first world podium. A surprise for the 26-year-old skier who counted, as best result in her career, a 9th place. She confirmed the good form of the American team after the title of Mikaela Shiffrin on the Alpine Combined.

Can she hope?

After this superb result, the American was able to build up some confidence before the giant slalom and the slalom (Thursday for the giant and this Saturday for the slalom). By keeping the same motivation, she could play the spoilsport among the favourites. However, the walk might be a little bit too high to compete with the bests. It is up to her to beat the predictions and to prove that she can exist next to Mikaela Shiffrin in the American team.
